All About Tennis

The Tennis game is a sport that is played between two players and such tennis games are known as singles. However, there is a combination of a man and man or a man and a woman and such pairs will play against another pair and these games are known as doubles.
The tennis bat that is used to hit the ball is known as a racquet and the usage of the word, bat is considered as a wrong terminology. It is said that the game was originated in England during the 19th century which is considered as the predecessor of the Tennis game.

The Tennis game was first spared only among the upper class crowd, even though the game needed very little equipment. The game spread all over the world but it was mostly played among the aristocracy and upper class but today, the game is enjoyed by different types of people from all over the world.
The first set of rules which was originated in 1890 in England remains almost the same. Even today, you can't find much difference. If someone says that tennis is one of the games with oldest rules, this is probably true because the only two changes made into tennis was in 1908 and 1960 respectively. There were no changes or the changes were very littler before this time period.

Tennis is considered as one of the simplest games to practice and the game needs very little equipment. If you are planning to play the game in a club, all you need is a racquet and ball.
A racquet is not just a simple product but there are many rules to follow when someone is creating one.
The handle and neck joins to create an oval shaped frame, which is wired with tightly pulled strings. During the game's inception, these racquets were made up of wood and animal gut was used to create the strings. However, laminated wood, carbon graphite and ceramics are widely used to create the racquets today.

Tennis balls were white when the game was played in the 19th century. However, we have seen many matches using a yellow color way for tennis balls. It was in the mid of 20th century when associations decided to change the color way of tennis balls to improve the visibility.
Compared to many other sports, tennis is one of the most organized sports.
There are many organizations that control and organize matches locally, nationally and worldwide. During the game play, there will be an umpire, who is known as a judge or chair umpire in the transcripts. However, the players as well as the commentators address them "umpires".

The umpire has a raised chair placed at one side of the court and he/she will be sitting over there during the match. The umpire has the sole authority to make factual determinations. Sometimes, the umpire also can get involved in confusion and he/she can seek the help of line judges to come up with a verdict. The duty of a line judge is to check whether a ball has landed inside the court or outside. Some matches also feature a net judge and the duty of net judge is to determine whether the ball touched the net or not.
However, the electronic sensors in modern matches replaced judges in some cases. For example, the serve is started with an electronic beep which was done by a judge earlier.

The final authority for any tennis match is the referee who will be standing outside the court. He must be called to the court by a player or the team captain and he has the right to overrule the umpire's decision. Unlike many other sports, the idea behind tennis matches is to play a tennis game continuously.
This is not possible for many matches as the players need time to relax and this is how arbitrary delays were born. However, a 20 second time period is implemented from the end of previous point to restart the game. However, the time frame can be increased even further to 90 seconds when the players are switching the sides.

For tournaments, taking break after each set is important so that the players can regain their stamina. For many matches, this break time is fixed as 120 seconds, which is two minutes.
This time frame can get changed in rare occasions. Apart from these permitted break periods, a player is supposed not to ask for a break unless the factors are beyond the control of the match organizers and the player.
Some classic examples are rain and damaged equipment such as the footwear and racquet. Even though such incidents are quite rare, this also happens during Tennis games.

For any delay in match during the changes in weather, a rescheduled game is played. The game starts with the same score as it was in the previous match and the players must maintain the same position even if the game is replayed in a different court.
For professional tournaments such as ATP and WTA, one concern is that the quick worn out time period for balls.
These organizations have set some rules and each ball will be changed after playing the nine games. However, the first game ball will be replaced after seven matches because the same ball will be used for pre-match warm up as well.

Professional tennis game players are one of the most privileged players in the sport because they also enjoy huge payouts and endorsements similar to car racing and soccer players. Even for amateurs, the tennis game is a great recreational game because it does not require a lot of space and complicated set up to play the game.
For a casual play, you can even make a court in your yard. There are people who choose their roof tops to create a tennis lawn. Since the equipment needed to play tennis games is minimal, you can carry your racquets and balls even on a picnic which will help you to enjoy the game at different occasions.
